Ericksonian Hypnosis -- A Brief Overview and Introduction to NLP
Ericksonian hypnosis techniques were developed by Milton Erickson.
If you've done much research about hypnosis, you've probably encountered the name of Milton Erickson, a psychiatrist and hypnotherapist.
Erickson was successful in overcoming the disabling effects of polio by watching babies move their limbs.
Because his sensory perception became so developed, he later created new hypnotic techniques using non-verbal communication and metaphors and became one of the most important figures in hypnotherapy.
Erickson also used a technique called "confusion" where he used contradictions while doing hypnosis.
Erickson believed that when subjects were in a relaxed state, a trance, the subconscious dismissed confusing ideas and accepted the essential underlying truth. This technique worked because relaxation and anxiety are mutually exclusive states.
If you are relaxed, you can not be anxious.
Ericksonian hypnosis is the forerunner of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) developed by Johnn Grinder, a linguist, and Richard Bandler, a mathemetician.
Bandler and Grinder essentially were the developers of modern day NLP (neuro-linguistic progamming).
