Free Hypnosis Training -- Going Down and Coming Up and Everything In-Between!
Can you be hypnotized?
During hypnosis training, one of the first things I asked when I was learning to hypnotize was this question: can anyone be hypnotized?
The answer to that is not a cut and dried yes or no.
Anyone who wants to be hypnotized, can be hypnotized. However, if a person is resistant to hypnosis, is afraid, or doesn't believe it will work or that they can't be hypnotized, then all your hypnosis training will not be able to hypnotize them.
Also, it is difficult to hypnotize someone you are very close to, such as a very close friend or spouse.
There are several reasons for this. It is often difficult for either one you to take the session seriously because you know one another so well. And a person you know very well could be less relaxed and more difficult to get them to go down into the hypnotic trance state.
Hypnosis training -- Steps in the hypnosis process
When you are learning to hypnotize someone or yourself, it is important to understand the overall process or steps that a hypnosis session follows.
The hypnotic induction -- going down
The first step in hypnosis training and how to hypnotize is the going down induction.
We call it "going down" because the person being hypnotized is going down into a level of consciousness much like going down to sleep, yet the person more than likely won't be asleep at all and may very well be awake.
The going down induction gets the person to relax until the hypnotist sees some visual clues that the person is entering the hypnotic state.
Some of those visual clues may be slumping shoulders, slack jaw, limp limbs.
During the induction you want to deepen the trance and there are several methods to do that, explained here.
The hypnotic suggestion
After the person has successfully entered the hypnotized state, you want to begin making the positive suggestions for achieving the person's goals.
It is important that you formulate your suggestions based on the special goal your subject wants to achieve.
The best way to formulate the suggestions you give your subject is to talk to the subject before the first session and ask specific questions.
If your client is trying to rid himself of his fear of flying, for example, you want to find out when this phobia started, how the subject feels when he is getting on an airplane, what he is thinking about, hearing, seeing, and feeling.
You also want to find out what exactly he is afraid of. Is it the plane crashing, or is it feeling "not in control" of a situation.
You can then make your suggestions to fit the subject's issues and reframe them in positive terms.
Hypnosis Training -- Coming up and out
The coming up induction is used to bring the subject back to full consciousness.
You want to do this gradually so that s/he comes back to consciousness gently. This avoids any issues with headaches, or a feeling of being awakened abruptly from sleep.
You want to tell them in this coming up induction that they will awake refreshed and alert and ready to carry out the suggestions they just received.
Although there is no mystery to hypnosis training, there are procedures to follow that will make it much easier to have success.
Keep in mind that you can never make someone do something that they do not want to do.
Hypnosis will only work when the subject wants to make the changes.
It is important that you practice when you are learning hypnosis. The more you practice, the better you will be able to hypnotize people.
It is best to practice on those who are willing subjects and are not close to you such as a spouse or good friend.
I found that there is no lack of people willing to be hypnotized.
Most people look at it at first as a joke, but once you explain the principles behind hypnosis, they will usually get serious and tell you something that they have been having trouble with or a goal they want to achieve and you have a willing and ready participant.
When I tell someone I am a hypnotist, the most frequent questions that come up are "can you hypnotize me to help me lose weight?" or "can you hypnotize me to help me quit smoking?"
These two goals are by far the most sought after goals of hypnotism I've come across.
You can build a complete practice around quitting smoking or weight loss with hypnosis.
