Good hypnosis inductions depend on performing suggestibility tests

Using Chevruel's Pendulum

If you are going to do effective hypnosis inductions, you need to know how to do suggestibility tests.

Suggestibility tests are important for knowing how suggestible you will be under hypnosis.

One test I like to do involves using the Chevreul's pendulum. This test is named after an early French hypnotist. It is an excellent initial test because it is successful with most people and is non threatening.

Chevreul discovered if you fervidly imagine something, the human body behaves in a way as if the imagined situation has already come to pass.

You can also perform this suggestibility test on yourself withoutu the help of anyone else.

If you don't have a pendulum, pictured below, you can make one yourself with string and a washer or other item tied to the bottom.

pendulum

First, draw a circle about 12 inches in diameter on a paper and then divide it in quarters using intersecting lines. Label the lines A, B, C, D as illustrated.

Then hold the pendulum over the center of the circle where the lines intersect. Sit at a table and rest your elbows.

Hold the pendulum so it will swing freely and avoid having a death grip on it!

Now, mentally imagine the pendulum swinging vertically from B to C avoiding doing anything to make it swing.Once the pendulum starts to swing, very slightly at first and then more, begin to imagine it making a circle.

If you have a positive response and the pendlum moves exactly in the direction of each suggestion, this would indicate that you are suggestible and a good candidate for hypnosis inductions.

If you have a negative response, the pendulum does not move.

If it moves in a different direction than is suggested, that means that your mind jumps around and could indicate problems when suggestion is given under hypnosis.

This is an interesting and fun test, yet it is an accurate evaluation of suggestibility.

Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!
